Authors

SUP offers comprehensive editorial support throughout the peer review and manuscript development process, and respectful copyediting, proofreading and indexing. We work collaboratively with our authors on the cover design to ensure that it conveys the book’s content, captures the reader’s attention and makes a strong first impression. We also offer targeted marketing support and broad distribution nationally and globally. Our aim is to combine the best of traditional publishing values with innovative print and digital technologies. We endeavour to publish quality books at reasonable prices to ensure that each title reaches a wider audience and makes an impact.

How to submit a book proposal

We look for quality proposals for monographs, multi-authored or edited collection and research-based books for the general reader in subject areas covered by the SUP series. Proposals for books outside the scope of the series will be considered if they are of exceptional merit.

If you would like to submit a proposal, please fill out our book proposal form and email it to the correct commissioning editor for the subject area. Apart from the proposal form, could you please also include:

  • A synopsis with detailed chapter outlines and/or essay abstracts (for edited collections)
  • A CV or résumé
  • One or two sample chapters (if available)

Commissioning editors:

Susan Murray – Australian literary studies, public and social policy, and non-series

Naomi van Groll – archaeology, animal studies and Celtic studies, China studies and Indigenous music, language and performing arts.

Peer review

All SUP proposals and manuscripts undergo a rigorous peer review process before they are accepted for publication. The proposals are refereed by the series editors and boards, before being presented to the Editorial Advisory Board for acceptance.

All manuscripts are refereed by at least two referees who are acknowledged experts in the particular field.

Open access

SUP supports the Open Access publishing of monographs.

PhD theses

We do not publish unrevised PhD theses. We will consider proposals that are based on thesis research, but they need to be expanded and rewritten for broader readership.
