Beaches of the South Australian Coast and Kangaroo Island explores the beaches on the South Australian Coast, including those on Kangaroo Island and a few of the major islands.
It begins by providing a background to the physical nature and evolution of the South Australian coast and its beach systems before presenting a description of every one of the 1454 mainland beaches and 301 island beaches. Based on the physical characteristics each beach is rated in terms of the level of beach hazards from the least hazardous rated 1 (safest) to the most hazardous 10 (least safe).

‘The seven books in the series sponsored by the Australian Beach Safety and Management Program (ABSMP) constitute the single most comprehensive beach database in the world ... It is rare to find a treasure of scientific and technical information that is available and comprehensible to scientists and lay persons alike ... It is thus without reservation that I recommend all books in the Beaches of Australia series'
