Creating Environmental and Occupational Health

Occupational hazards have plagued human civilisation since time immemorial and much of the progress in making workplaces safer is reflected by, and recorded in, the academic periodicals of environmental and occupational health. As a result, careful examination of these journals provides an interesting record of the field itself, as well as documenting the concerns and issues deemed important by editorial boards and contributors over time.

Derek R. Smith is Professor of Environmental and Occupational Health and Deputy Director (Research) at the Central Coast Campus of the University of Newcastle in New South Wales, Australia. He is active in many different research areas including environmental and occupational health, public health, epidemiology, bibliometrics and medical history. He has published over 200 scientific articles and presented at numerous domestic and international conferences.
